Villain/henchmens vehicle

Notes

Appearances

In the film Francisco Scaramanga after kidnapping Mary Goodnight make a succesful runaway from the street chase in Bangkok. Scaramanga and Nick Nack hides the car in a hangar. There the car is transformed into the plane by adding wings and jet engine. And finally they flew away to their hideout leaving the astonished police and Bond on the ground.

Facts

During filming the Matador equipped with the non-functioning wings almost took off when a sudden gust of wind caught it.

The Matador model was created in 1973. Totally new car design with new sport shapes aimed to be competition for middle size cars and NASCAR winner vehicle in one body. Indeed, the car was nice and hit the attention of people and specialists from the first strike.

In the first year of appearance (1974) 62.269 units were sold. Next years were not so happy - the Matador got best notes with either the 360 or 401 V8 engines, but that was the top- and most expensive models, the basic line was "too weak". The Coupe survived untill 1978 with total sales of 94.468 units.

Trivia

The full scale airplane attachments was designed by John Stears based on a real flying car.

The car seen flying is a 1:4 scale model with dolls of Nick Nack and Scaramanga.

The flying model also build by Stears is equipped with a propel at the front of the fake jet engine housing.
