In St Petersburg, Russia James Bond meets his CIA contact Jack Wade at the airport. Wade\'s preferred vehicle of transportation is a ZAZ-965A. That car has never let him down, he claims. But of course it does. But with a screwdriver, a wrench and a sledgehammer the stalled car is restarted.
This car of Soviet, was in the West believed to be a copy of the Fiat 600, but claims to be developed as a cooperation between ZAZ (Zaporizky Avtomobilny Zavod) and Moskvitch based upon the Moskvitch-444. The car was designed and considered the Volkswagen of USSR. In Soviet it had several nicknames: Hunchback or Ladybird. Both referring to the cars bumpy shape.
Of course as a peoples car, jokes was made, like: the engine used to be the starter in Soviet tanks.
The ZAZ-965A was produced between 1962 and 1969. It\'s predecessor the ZAZ-965 was produced between 1960 and 1963. The only difference between the two models is the engine: The 965 had a MeMZ-965 of 26 hp and the 965A a MeMZ-966 of 27 hp.
